Our first destination will be Azrou.
Azrou, situated in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco, is renowned for its stunning cedar forests, authentic Berber architecture, and indigenous handicrafts. The town offers an abundance of fascinating attractions, both within its limits and the surrounding regions, making it a sought-after destination among tourists.
The Cedar Forest is a major highlight of Azrou, as it serves as a natural habitat for the Barbary macaque, the sole species of monkey native to Africa. Tourists can relish a refreshing hike amidst the lush greenery, savor a delightful picnic, or admire the picturesque vistas that the forest has to offer.
Depart from Azrou and proceed towards Ifrane.
Nestled in the heart of the Middle Atlas region of Morocco, Ifrane is a captivating city that enthralls visitors with its enchanting landscapes, distinctive architecture, and cool climate. Its unique charm makes it a favored location for tourists who seek to experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Morocco.
Ifrane boasts an array of captivating attractions that cater to a diverse range of interests. Visitors can embark on an expedition to the breathtaking Ifrane National Park, engage in exhilarating hiking adventures in the nearby mountains, or visit the magnificent Al Akhawayn University, which features an extraordinary architectural style that adds to its allure.
Embarking on an Ifrane tour is an exceptional means to relish the mesmerizing beauty and rich culture of Morocco's Middle Atlas region.
Upon reaching Midelt, a charming town nestled amidst the picturesque Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, visitors can delight in the stunning natural vistas that surround them. Additionally, the town's advantageous location offers easy accessibility to several popular tourist destinations in the vicinity, further enhancing the experience for travelers.
As a part of our visit, we will pause at a local eatery to savor the tantalizing flavors of traditional Moroccan cuisine, including tajine, couscous, and harira soup, all of which are readily available at several dining venues scattered throughout Midelt.
As you make your way through the Middle Atlas Mountains and continue your southern journey, you'll notice a remarkable contrast as the verdant green mountainous terrain gradually transforms into arid desert landscapes. However, the presence of the Ziz River near Errachidia infuses vitality into what might have been an otherwise desolate and barren environment.
Upon arriving in Merzouga, you will be welcomed with a refreshing cup of tea before embarking on a tranquil camel ride to the desert camp situated amid the shimmering golden dunes. Your overnight accommodation will be a cozy tent, where you can relish a delightful dinner under the glittering starry sky.
Moreover, the local camp team will regale you with live regional music, crafting an unforgettable experience as you spend the night in the heart of the desert dunes.
On the second day, following breakfast at the Auberge, you will embark on a 4x4 tour of the dunes, providing you with an opportunity to explore the fascinating black volcanic rocks laden with marble fossils. You will also visit the renowned Khamlia village, famous for its vibrant black community and their captivating Gnawa spiritual music performances.
While visiting Hassi Labied, we'll pause at a garden where you can witness the elaborate canal irrigation system that's been employed for centuries to cultivate crops in the desert.
Following that, we'll return to Merzouga, where we can witness the Dayet Srji Lake, which is formed during springtime and draws in a variety of wildlife, including pink flamingos, making for a remarkable and gorgeous spectacle.
To start our expedition, we'll awaken early to catch the stunning sunrise over the dunes. Afterward, we can enjoy a camel ride back to the hotel for breakfast, followed by a drive towards Rissani and ultimately making our way back to Fez.
Rissani is a town positioned in the southeastern part of Morocco, situated in the Tafilalet region, and located on the fringes of the Sahara Desert. It is renowned for its historical importance as the former capital of the Tafilalet region and the birthplace of the Alawite dynasty, which is presently the ruling family of Morocco.
Rissani boasts a prosperous cultural heritage, featuring numerous ancient ruins and historical sites that trace back to the Almoravid and Almohad dynasties. Among the most distinguished landmarks in Rissani are the remnants of the former city of Sijilmasa, which was once a significant hub for trade and commerce in North Africa.
